The Full Monty - NODA Review

THE FULL MONTY - Toads SMC - The Little Theatre

Dir : Sarah O'Connor Chor : Elaine Johnson MD : John Amery

I dont know how this society is ever going to surpass this production, because it really was superb. Apart from a crackling microphone which was occasionally problematic, this show was faultless. The script is very well written with comedy and pathos running side by side and the characters are most interesting. Toads SMC did themselves proud, the direction was thoughtful and imaginitive and there was not a weak member of the cast. By the end you really felt as if you knew each character extremely well. The music was exciting and expertly played by an eight piece band under the direction of John Amery. They were positioned at the back and above the stage so the balance with the signing was good. The choreography was varied, well performed and fun. The set was on trucks and so moved into position easily and quickly which helped to keep the show slick and give it pace. The audience went through a variety of emotions, laughing until their sides ached one minute and very moved the next. The finale was fantastic, with an excited audience to satisfy, the six male principals gave, and showed, all they had and received a well deserved enthusiastic applause. Congratulations to all involved , a most enjoyable performance.
