SOCIAL EVENT – CINEMA TRIP
The father of one of our members has a connection with the cinema industry and has arranged a private screening of the new release “War of the Worlds” for SUNDAY JULY 10TH at VUE CINEMA, PLYMOUTH (The big multiplex on the way in to the city). The screening time is 10am (early we know but it has to be before the cinema opens to the public), and the price is just £5. We are sharing this event with Newton Abbot Musical Comedy Society and all funds from tickets we can sell will go to our funds. We could make a tidy sum, so we need the full support of our members please. The film has received excellent reviews and the critics consider it to be Stephen Spielberg’s best ever, so it is worth seeing, and at a price cheaper than you would pay anywhere else. I don’t expect you will have to sit through the adverts either !!!
If you haven’t yet booked please contact IAIN DOUGLAS on 01803-290371 to book your place.
I expect those of us who are going can go out for lunch afterwards maybe. There are plenty of places nearby.
ME AND MY GIRL – PRINCESS THEATRE – JUNE 28th – JULY 2nd
“Terrific” “Fantastic” “Highly Professional” “Superb” “Awesome”. These are just some of the compliments paid to the society following last weeks hugely successful show. I am very pleased to report that 3659 paid to see the show and in total 4057 saw the show during 6 performances. This was our highest attendance since 2002 and well deserved. The cast appeared to have a very happy time indeed back stage, and it was just great to have 600 – 700 people roaring with laughter throughout the show, at every performance. The whole cast is to be congratulated on their superb performances and especially David Youll who was stunning as Bill Snibson (I personally think it’s the best thing he has done, certainly for us), but everyone was so good. Our sincere thanks to Richard for his highly amusing and professional production, Wendy for her usual lovely choreography, and John for his excellent orchestra. Thanks also to Andrew Pryce for his, as always, highly organised technical and stage management without which we would sink without trace at our get in and rig up, and to Sarah, Lydia and Jane for their well planned props. We must also thank the entire team at the Princess Theatre, with whom we have such a cordial relationship. We view them as our friends and they help us at every stage of the game. So thanks to Martyn Jenkins and his technical crew, to Steve Gillon and his box office crew, and to Wendy Bennett and Helen McDonald and their management team.
Despite the problems we experienced at the get in and rig up, with an awkward set, and having to have a technical and dress combined on the Monday, and having a number of unanswered questions on Tuesday and going into the first night with fingers crossed, it all went swimmingly, and we have a large number of complimentary letters, e-mails, and telephone calls. “Me and My Girl” is the original feel good musical, and I think our Treasurer will certainly feel good after this one, as I don’t think we envisage any financial hiccups after this one, thankfully.
